c Shazam

Released on Friday 03/05/13

Found by Boris in an antique store, the Shazam machine would happily read the future in exchange for just a few Clintz. Cheap and to the point, his predictions more than satisfied his customers. But for some time now, Shazam's séances always seem to take a grisly turn. As a result, the master of ceremonies is beginning to wonder if perhaps Mira isn’t somehow involved, given that she didn’t take very kindly to the machine making off with her clientele.

First development of the 2 of this character’s different developments:

  • FreaksShazampicture
    5Ability unlocked at
    2Poison 2, Min 3
  • FreaksShazampicture
    7Copy: Opp. Bonus
    2Poison 2, Min 3

Ability of Shazam:

Copy: Opp. Bonus

When Shazam is engaged in combat with another character, his “Copy: Bonus” ability is replaced by his opponent's Bonus. If the opponent’s Bonus is not activated, then this ability has no effect.

Poison 2, Min 3

If Freaks wins the round, at the end of each of the following turns the opponent will lose 2 Life point(s) if he/she has more than 3 Life point(s). If the opponent has 3 or less Life point(s), the poison effect is not triggered.

:*:Forky Bard's Reviews:*:
(I'm going to be doing this for 2 cards every release.) (Also note that these reviews are made from the perspective of an ELO player.) comparion with Bertha, comparison with Flanagan, sample half deck, how he fits in the metagame

Shazam really tugs at heartstrings for me, mainly because my late grandfather had a machine like this, and he would do impressions of Aladdin for me.

This card is a versatile card that should become an ELO staple. Shazam's CoB is situationally better than a SoB, for reasons I will explain. Coupled with solid stats, this card will be giving you headaches for years to come!

CoB is NOT better than SoB, they are different abilities that do different things. Saying one is better than the other is like saying Pussycats have a better bonus than La Junta, and vice-versa. Here's a list:

CoB vs. La Junta/Freaks/Berzerk/FPC/Frozn/Jungo: You gain an offensive bonus. This is good if you plan to win a round.
SoB vs.: You prevent their damaging bonus. Pseudo-DR, in effect.

CoB vs. Vortex: You gain an offensive forking ability.
SoB vs. Vortex: You prevent a fork.

CoB vs. Frozn: On a revenge turn, you will have higher power and damage.
SoB vs. Frozn: On your opponent's revenge turn, you prevent their bonus.

CoB vs. Pussycats: Defensive, reduces their damage.
SoB vs. Pussycats: Let's you ignore their DR.

CoB and SoB also operate differently on attack bonuses. An example is Shazam against Montana. Most Montana have 7 power. Assuming 0 Pillz on Shazam, an opposing non-2* 7 power like Moses would have to pill 3 to beat Shazam. Against SoB, Moses would only have to pill twice. This is why I believe CoB to be a better fit for Shazam, letting win fights against monsters like Beeboy, Avola, Sledg (who ignores SoB) etc. to get the poison in. SoB's defensive capabilities will be missed, though.

I like to think of Shazam as Marlysa Cr, but with a better bonus and a better ability. He matches up with several similar cards from different clans, here's how they stack up.

Shazam vs. Flanagan
These cards are more similar than you think. Flanagan has a supporting cast of Qubik, Tremorh and Romana, while Shazam has Bogdan, Grudj, and Quasichoco. I would say this is dead-even, although Flanagan is a more defensive pill forcer while Shazam is an aggressive bluff.

Shazam vs. Marlysa Cr
It's easy to see who wins this. While Marlysa Cr has more "true" damage, she can be DR'd easily. Shazam's base damage is no issue, as in the first turn he can hit for 8! damage. It's also easier to get him to win due to his offensive bonus. Advantage Shaz.

Shazam vs. Lehane
Lehane is what I would call a godly card. Although Shazam may have more damage, Lehane is just an unbelievable card that can wall, force 2-3 Pillz, prevent offensive bonuses, and beat 99% of all the cards in the game pill-for-pill.

A hand with Shazam will leave your opponent thinking, and it's not so simple as to throw in an SoB clan to counter Freaks anymore. An excellent card for a great clan.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and if you want more analytical reviews instead of the standard "Pros, Cons, Score" kind, look at out for Forky Bard's reviews!

Freaks 2*
7 Power
2 damage
Ability: Copy Opp Bonus

Pros
+ Tiny 2*, fits easily into any deck
+ Copy Opp Bonus is one of the best abilities in the game as it is so versatile. It counters attack/power manip, and acts as a protection against the SOB of Nightmare and Piranas which are such killers of Freaks life-gap potential
+ Poison Poison Poison. Like any Freaks, Shazam has Poison. If he hits in the 1st round, he can deal a nice life gap of 8 over the course of a match, to a min of 3. Very few cards allowed in elo have such good poison as Freaks.
+ 7 power is nothing to write home about itself, but great on a 2*. Even better combined with the other attributes of this card.
+ Great artwork by Ples001

Cons
- 2 Damage is kinda low if the Bonus is stopped, as you'd expect. But this isn't a tremendously great risk, due to the ability.

Power: 9/10 Damage: 6/10 (acceptable for a 2* with semi-protected poison) Ability: 10/10 Bonus: 8/10 elo 4/10 elsewhere
Ability/Bonus synergy: 10/10
Overall: 43/50 elo 39/10 elsewhere
Out of 10: 8.6/10 elo 7.8 elsewhere

Absolute staple of any Freaks elo deck. If you don't have this card in your deck, ydon't other using Freaks in competitive play unless it's a Coliseum with specific rules

Shazam is a wonderful addition to the Freaks:-d
-his 7/2 2* stats are decent
- his ability synergy with the Freaks bonus is outstanding. In most cases for he is always getting an advantage from his ability unless Shazam is facing Skeelz, Roots, GHEIST, Leader, or no bonus in which case he still has his decent stats
- Shazam also halfway solves the sob problem for the Freaks, since he can stop sob clans (Nightmare, piranhas) from stopping his bonus
-his price is very cheap compared to his potential i strongly recommend him if you are looking for a 2* Freaks fill :*:
- the biggest cons for him are soa and/or sob

-Overall Shazam is i think a good staple for a Freaks deck and also decent in a half deck
i give Shazam an 8.5/10

Best 2* of Freaks

in my opinion 5 best 2 stars
1 Lehane 8/2 with sob and attack manip hands down the best
2 Hawkins/Shazam hawkinz is a solid 7/2 with sob and pills manip that is a very good wall right there but Shazam has 7/2 cob and a virtual 7/4 ( 7/6 if poison takes effect for 2 rounds) i'd say they are evenly matched
4 maralysa cr 7/4 with sob i'd say almost as good as Shazam in some peoples opinion even better
5 Melanie a virutal 8/4 with protection power that can't be maniped nice (would be better than maralysa if her ability was more offensive eg: sob cob attack manip)
