r Maurice

Released on Friday 11/02/11

Maurice had always believed that cooking is an art form and had allowed his life to be steered by this. But on joining the Uppers, he realized that fighting can be seen in a similar way, so long as it's done with enough style and sophistication. He now combines his two specialties and serves up special recipes for the Clan's enemies.

congrats Rescue fans, ur just laughed in your faces XD, this card can be half decked, scott cant, this card has one more reduction and the same min, and one more damage, the only time Scott Ld holds a candle is in mono, and thats only because mono Rescue is much more well rounded then mono Uppers

Let us count the cuisine in his art.

Level 1: A simple and singular pea. Even apprentices, amatuers or grand chefs need to know how to utilize the full flavour of cooked peas. Served on a gold platter, of course. With a golden fork studded with an emerald.

Level 2: Entree: Most likely the completed dish of the Level 1 Art. It consists of peas (as stated, from previous artwork but many more of them) with a side of chips (fries for you Americans), a well-cooked steak with melting butter on top and encased below is lettuce. The dish is being served actually to the customer, with a side of Beef wedged on a golden mousetrap. Maurice has a sample of the Beef stuck on his golden fork.

Level 3: Main Course: An interesting yet more challenging dish. Roasted whole pig with greasy batter on top. On the side is a tomato, diced cheese pieces and a steamed carrot that are on top of another leaf of lettuce. Added to the side are two grenades and stuffed in the pig's mouth, not the usual apple, is a machine gun barrel.
This time Maurice has a large carving knife instead of his usual golden fork. Perphaps in order to cut up the pig?

Level 4: Dessert: His non de plume. This is Maurice's Go Boom Cake. Served on his biggest golden platter is a sponge-like pale vanilla bases with chocolate runny topping. On the bottom layer on the golden platter is miniture bombs. On the first and second layer of the actual cake is dynatmite stick candles and the crowning glory is an emerald made from the finest sugar glass company in all Clint City. Needless to say, your party will go off with a bang with Maurice as Chef.

I personally give this meal a 4/5.

What about you?

FINALLY a good card for Uppers (elo wise). Sure this card isnt a 2 star (which they are really needing) but still its a good card.

-7 power great great
-5 damage great great (even tho it IS under average for upper 4 stars)
-Uppers bonus is still one of the best.
-GREAT reduction power
-Can be used for attack or defense making him great (kinda like a Scott Ld but better)
-He fills a big gap. They had Jody but confidence based dr are not good. they had Burt but in all honesty he never really cut it for me.

-Competition galore-I guess its good to pick and choose right?
-He is needed but was more needed 2 weeks ago not now. Right now almost everyone is using Piranas or Freaks... he loses value vs the Freaks (specially cuz Nellie can take over) and against the Piranas he might as well use Wayne Stark. Luckly this can hopefully NOT be permanent.
-The problem with forks/versatile cards is you have to choose as much as your opponent has to choose. Do u want that 5 damage or do u want to reduce there damage?

In the old elo mode i can see a huge advantage for him. Your opponent goes first and you think they are going to pill a lot. You use a 2 star like Samantha. you lose but now only have 6 life left. THEN this card becomes amazing! you use this card with 1-3 pills and either win and finish them with Dorian or Herman or a furied other... or they dont damage you too much, use to many pillz, and u win again.

8.5/10 I think he will get more value if elo changes back, but still a good card overall and i highly recommend if you are going into Uppers elo.

If he "serves up special recipes" for his enemies, why isn't his Ability a Poison ability? Thoughts anyone???

Maurice: 7/5; ability: -3 opp. damage, min 2; bonus: -10 opp. attack, min 3
+solid 7 power is nice. add that with Uppers bonus and he'll win his fair share of battles
+damage reducing ability is a good addition to the Uppers, but not completely new (see Burt)
+5 damage is good, but maybe more average for an Uppers.
+the ability is not conditional so i like him a lot more than Jody.
+can be used for defense of offense. with his bonus, opponents will still have to pill even if they call your zero pill bluff. he forces your opponent into the dilemma: lose and take 5 damage, or win and be heavily reduced and down in the pill battle.
+against SoA he is still a solid attacker. against SoB, his 7 power is nothing to sneeze at..especially if your opponent is all worried about his damage being reduced and thus has a fear of overpilling.
-4 stars, which means competition is an issue when trying to fit into a 25 star deck. Of course Jackie Cr is the undisputed champion of 4* Uppers, but Nellie, Beetenka, and Wayne Stark all compete for the second slot (if there is even room for a second four star). But since Jackie Cr is elo banned, I find that Maurice and Nellie are slight favorites for me. It all depends on what you are looking for though.
-can be used for defense or offense. yes, this is a con too. UR is a game of the mind. if there is too much indecision going on in yours, then it may be hard to play a card like Maurice. There is no doubt that your opponent will be confused on what to do with him, but you must decide whether he is an attacker or a defender before you even play him.
-there are many ways around damage reduction like life drain (Ngrath, Arawaka), poision (Muze, Freaks, Cyb Lhia), and life gain (Murray, Jungo). All of these types of cards and clans are on the rise with the new elo life start standard so maurice's usefulness is hindered.
Despite my large text block on the cons side, I actually really do like Maurice. If the elo rules do change back, he is an excellent multidimensional card. I'm also seeing a bright future for him in type 2 as that is typically where Uppers is seen. He reminds me of cards like Wolfgang and Niva whom I regard highly as well. Uppers needed a good reducer and Maurice just might be the answer. In a high damaging clan, don't be afraid to use him for the KO as well. If you loose, his reduction is a safety net. Finally, being an Uppers means that he doesn't have to pill big to win. Uppers thrive in the low to mid pill range and that's right where this guy excels. In the end, Maurice is an awesome, versatile card; but the clan still needs more low star help.
