r Kusuri

Released on Friday 17/06/11

If you could become a master of martial arts without being injured, we’d know about it by now! As little sister to Kuei, Kusuri has had a lot of training. Kuei and his buddies used to punch one another and she would be there to tend to their wounds. So now she’s joining him on Golden Mountain and is very warmly welcomed by the Fang Pi Clang!

Kusuri - 7/2 with Defeat: +2 Life (ability) and +2 Damage (bonus)

(this entire review is based on the assumption that all players have 12 life at start of game. It has been a while)

- 7 solid power isn't terrible for a 2*. One of the strongest 2* with defeat.
- Her defeat is quite nice. It lets you soak up a troubling opponent like Lea or Stacey. It lets you stop certain 2HKOs if used against the initiator and doesn't require any pills to do battle
- A slight advantage Kusuri has over her 2* competition, Chan, is that she has 2 damage instead of 1. This is quite a big difference for the Fang Pi. While 3 damage is awkward and hard to place, Kusuri can 2HKO with cards like Kuei, furious Fei, Zinfred, and many others. Also allows her easier 2HKOs with other clans if you're half-decking with Fang Pi.
- Because of her defensive ability but offensive capabilities, Kusuri is a very mindgame based card
- SoB may hurt her damage potential, but that doesn't change her defeat at all. So she is still very useable. SoA can get rid of her defeat, but she is still a 7/4 2*, not terrible.
- Since Kusuri is only 2*, she allows a lot of extra room in your deck

- If you are trying to win with her though, it will be an uphill battle without any use of mindgames and pill awareness. Kusuri has no attack or power manipulation to support her in low pill battles. and 7 power by itself with no support is quite fragile. In addition, she only does pump 4 damage, so a heavy investment of pills should only be considered on a killing blow, and even that may be risky depending on the situation.
- Like all mindgame based cards, Kusuri can do very well, or she can totally bomb in a match.
- Just remember that if you're going for a victory, Kusuri's defeat doesn't activate, obviously.

Overall: 8/10. This was quite a hard rating, to be fair. It is very doubt that Kusuri will replace the king, Chan. His 10 power is just too nice. That said, Kusuri still has a lot of tricks. The fact that she has defeat gives you a lot of utility in a match. Her mindgaming can change the course of battle for you and even sneak in a win when your opponent least suspects it. That said, don't always try to rely on Kusuri on the neaky route. Sometimes, just 0 pill losing is the smarter route. Sometimes. Still a nice little card, and I'm sure she will see more popularity if people can really use her to her full potential.

(Side analysis note: I prefer her to Yumi, but it is quite a player preference. Kusuri does not have confidence, has more solid power, and has a very nice ability, but Yumi has provide the attack manipulation you need to really push or force your opponents to pill. That said, I think Kusuri is the stronger pick, due to the lack of confidence (that's a funny wording) but it's player preference).

Kinjo's Student Review

745 - Kusuri Yao

Kuei...my star pupil. Kuei... also the pupil who gets injured everytime he tries to throw a punch at Endo or Nakata (Katanas are stronger than fists). Luckily enough, he has a sister.

Kusuri is Kuei's younger sister who's not really a punch at kung-fu unlike his brother. Though 6 years difference between their age, I can't think how Kuei can survive without Kusuri. Lin Xia will probably slice those ugly fingernails through is stomach and he will come back the next day good as new. Kusuri is a star doctor. Endo, Macumba, Otome, and espicially Natrang needs doctors every single day. Kusuri is equal to a few doctors.

Like other doctors and nurses like Dwaan, her star is definitely Bridget. She always wanted to replace Bridget in her battles, but she probably needs more training. Though a good nurse, she sometimes has a little *small* temper. Once, she couldn't get a beetle out of Hattori's throat, she raged and had to take care of Kuei, Otome and Nakata (AFTER she hit them of course)

All and all, she's nice. Though I have a striking thought that she will join the Rescue. Hmm.... NAH! Probably just my imagination acting up.
