Start fight during tourney, but end after tourny has ended = points.

This is my first post, I've been searching but I didn't find my question.
On the google I've seen messages that says that if you start a fight before tournament start, but you finish after, you will get the points inside the tournament.

Unfortunately my personal experience show that this doesnt' happen. Please someone say what is the actual facts.

When do you score ? When you should start ? When you should finish ?
