The specialty of the Freaks’ new artist, Arturo, is to change costume in just five seconds. With his lightning show that lasts exactly two minutes, Arturo goes from being a two-bit vampire to a hilarious guru, to a mummy wrapped up in toilet paper to an overly kitsch genius of evil. By alternating from one ridiculously colorful character to another, Arturo has his audience doubled over with laughter. However, as a result of acting the clown and impersonating some well-known and not very well-liked Clint City personalities, it is highly likely that Arturo will end up either buried alive in the Nightmare manor or sent to an unknown galaxy by the Sakrohm... or worse still: crushed to a pulp and turned into a robot courtesy of the GHEIST!

Why does everyone assume every Freaks card has to be used for its Poison? Freaks needs a card to get the KO, too, and this is EXACTLY who you want to use. Really nice card.

Anyone else see Spyke?

Arturo is actually a very rare card for the Freaks, one that specialises not in getting the poison in, but closing the game for them! Most of the Freaks old and new staples have all been either opening round cards, or counter's to specific problems that inhibit Freaks such as Bogdan/Olga being the former and Shazam/ Matirochka being the latter.

Arturo has a fantastic ability that means in the 3rd and 4th round especially he will be absolutely trampling cards down, with Spyke like efficiency! With his max of - 4 opp power he can knock out anything below 9 power with ease and can even take on cards up to 11 power pill for pill, which is a very rare trait amongst UR cards. Whilst I wouldn't recommend using him in the first few rounds he will still likely have a slight power advantage, so if need be you can still take stuff down with him! To add a cherry on top of this round winner he has a solid 5 damage to boot so he can easily fury close games and you won't be struggling to catch up to clans that out damage Freaks

Arturo only has one real weakness and that's his somewhat predictability, sure abilities like SOA/Prot: Power and DR exist and can take the edge of him but they don't completely fuck him over and he can still outmanoeuvre them. The problem comes when the opponent expects you to save him and so saves and Oshitsune or a Rattle coupled with a DR or other issue for the last few rounds, thus forcing him into a 'waste his potential and play him earlier' or face the music and deal with a huge problem later on.
It won't pop up every game but just be careful with using Arturo last every single game!

When people talk about Freaks, they seem to be under the impression that the Freaks playstyle involves inflicting poison on the first round, then doing literally nothing while the opponent just kinda... dies? If you've actually played Freaks to any great degree, you'd know that their late game is extremely tricky. That's where the minimum on their bonus becomes a major flaw, and you rely pretty heavily on the non-Freaks half of your deck (assuming you're not the kind of nutter who plays mono-Freaks) in order to really solidify your life advantage after letting the poison do its job. Finally Freaks have a card to help with that late-game weakness. As someone already pointed out, Arturo isn't going to be the one to inflict the poison, and that's okay, because there is so much more to playing Freaks.

With Boris gone, the Freaks really know how to turn their ratings up. And with this guy creating the monster Zera, I would cry if I went to see a real Freaks show.

The interesting thing about Arturo is that he doesn't necessarily have to be used on the 4th round despite being a Growth card.

You'll have to keep in mind that his minimum is 4. This means that if your opponent plays a 7 powered card, Arturo is just as effective on the 3rd round against that card as he is on the last round. However, due to his bonus, he actually deals MORE damage on the 3rd round than on the 4th round. This, naturally, applies on the 2nd round as well.

It's also interesting to note that on the 2nd round, he is a 7/5 with -2 Power min 4., which while is nothing extraordinary, is still decent enough play on par with most cards in the game. Plus, your opponent rarely expects the turn 2 Arturo as well.

Now...... back to the last round though, he will often beat many cards by a huge pill margin. This is important since if you lead with another Freaks like Liona, (or worse, Magdelone) then your opponent has to watch his pill count carefully or risk losing to a late game comeback from Arturo.

This final bit is probably the most important reason why Arturo is a good card though. It's that he stands completely alone as a strong card even without the bonus. Very often, when you are playing Freaks, you are playing it in a half deck. In a half deck, there is inconsistency. You won't always draw the Freaks bonus, and playing a full lineup of DRs like Wolfgang, Wonald, Quasichoco will fail for the reason that they are inferior cards without their bonus.

However, Arturo is not. He perhaps deals a little less damage without his bonus, but he is still a great late game threat. And that adds consistency to the otherwise inconsistent Freaks half that relies too heavily on its bonus. The Freaks are taking a slight turn from their old R1 / R2 Poison, wall and win days. It's more and more important that each card from the Freaks half is still useful without its bonus, and Arturo offers just that kind of consistency.

And this is exactly the reason why cards like Liona and Shazam are much more valued than their DR counterparts like Wolfgang and Wonald in ELO. Freaks DR lose a lot of their value when the bonus isn't in play, especially due to their lowered POW/DMG stats and especially against counters or high damage decks.

UR doesn't favor OHKO decks, it favors decks with the most situations to win a game; you might opt to play Liona or Shazam in the early game and Arturo at the end in an extremely predictable way, but if the way you distribute your pillz is unpredictable... well, chances are you'll win more than lose since its harder to predict how many pills you'll spend (1 to 13) rather than which card you'll play (1 to 4).

Yep, I'm crazy enough to play mono-Freaks. Yep, This guy is amazing. Yep, I'm doing good in Elo.
