r Herman

Released on Friday 19/11/10

Greasy, gross and repugnant, Herman delights in the disgust he inspires in others. The richer he becomes, the viler he becomes and the more staff he recruits on which to take out his revolting behavior. Accustomed to having people do as he says, he's sworn to get his own back on Zlatar, an ex-employee who not only had the nerve to resign but has become richer than him.

Herman - Lard and in Charge.

Herman, since his arival, has drawn a large number of mixed opinions.
Is he good? Is he bad? Is he T2 material, or is he T2 only? Is he for Elo? How much does he weigh? Can those little robo-lets realisticly support him??

-Massive 8 damage, allows him to 2HKO with many of the clan's less infamous members. Harold, Frankie Hi, and even a furious Wendel are all amongs the mix of characters. Outside of Elo, theres the lethal combination of Zatman to consider.
-Mass power reduction means your opponent will need a stagering 3 pills to climb past his Uppers bonus (if reduced to 4)
-Due to his bonus, and his damage, he CAN situationaly (SITUATIONALY) function, to an extent, without his ability.

-His star count is a chunky as he is..., which is pretttyy damn chunky
-He takes quite a bashing from SoA
-Sob hurts, although, not as much as SoA
-All stops murder him, however, they do so to most cards.
-Attack manipulators hurt quite a bit

My biggest problem with Herman is that he doesen't quite seem to fit in anywhere, other than T2 survivor ofcorse. In T2 dailys, the clasic 6-damage 2HKO Uppers/Montana deck doesen't need his beefy 8 damage to kill. In Elo, however, he could possible make a difference (i'll continue this in another post).

All in all, i'll give him a 7.5/10. Could be a 8.5, or even a 9, but Herman is far too boxed out by his clan. Who knows though, someone might break new water with mono-Uppers

People need to stop saying "SOA kills this card" on every single character that comes out. If an ability is good then taking away that ability is the way you deal with it. This is the basic idea behind what an ability is. It should be noted that Uppers are lacking good 5 stars other than Dorian, and Herman beats 8 power opponents much better than Dorian in addition to doing more damage. He two hit KO's with virtually any upper, or one hits with C Wing, and Dorian does niether. So okay SOA is is kryptonite, but even against Roots or GHEIST he does so much damage that you can't just assume someone won't spend a lot of pills to him.

People seem to have mixed feelings about Herman, and for some reason, are comparing him to cards that are completely in a different clan. Truth of the matter is, Herman is an exceptional card, and, most importantly, he's not overly broken.
Yes, he's weak to SOA, as are most other cards out there. Yes, he relies heavily on his bonus to be viciously effective. Basically, Herman has the same weaknesses as most other cards out there. Yet there's good reason for it. For a card that can rip an 8 powered card down to his level, and then proceed to negate two of it's pillz with just his bonus, these weaknesses justify the power of the card. We've seen such destructive force in the the 4* princess, Nellie, who has been a longtime staple in the clan, being favored over cards that many would consider more stable, like Beetenka and Wayne Stark. If people favored stability over the risks of losing to SOA or SOB, then Nellie wouldn't even be a contender for the 4* slot, but we can obviously see this isn't the case. Herman is no different, being the exact same in every way as Nellie, except adding a bit more punch when he gets through. Herman is a card to be feared, and while he's not as stable as Dorian, he has much more capacity to pull out wins, given the tried and true combination of power cutting and attack manipulation. Uppers needed a 5* beast to replace Dorian on his weeks off, and Herman fills that role well, if not exceeding it.

Herman ::

Herman... that fat good for nothing. I actually first made my fortunes through Herman, so you're probably thinking why I despise that greasy totty. Well.. I first founded the Uppers whilst I was working at Herman's hugely money-making food businesses. And the obvious thing to do was invite my boss to the clan.. no problems! But I felt inspired one day to go out and make my fortunes through my own efforts, so I sent a resignation letter to Herman... what do you mean why didn't I tell him myself? That pudding would have sat on me! And ever since then I have been too scared to approach Herman and tell him to leave the clan.. I guess I'll just have to put up with it.

Elo - I think he'll see mixed use in Elo, depending on the bans. If another no-SoA week comes along, this guy might just take Uppers into the big leagues. That said, he doesen't work well with the fabled magic 6 2HKO half deck we are all used to seeing. He does, however, bring the less-used cards, such as Frankie Hi, into the game. I foresee quite a few quite a few potent mono-Uppers decks will show themselves in the comming weeks, especialy with the new themed-elo bans.

All in all, a good card, but Uppers simply doesen't have the structure to support him. Ruby and Oxen both fill the 3* slots, which his 2HKO counterparts, such as Frankie Hi, and Harold, would need. Unless people are willing to step into uncharted teritory, Herman simply doesen't seem to have a home.

No doubt he'll see use in the ocational 'try-something-new' deck, but if he'll ever make it, is down to the meta-game.
That said, mono-Uppers Death Match. Herman + Zatman. Only time will tell smiley
