Hi everyone,

We'd like to discuss the ELO system with you.

Over time, this particular game mode has undergone several changes that have largely proved to be successful. So this is where we are currently at:

- We’ve reached the point where there are almost 1,000 cards available in the format and in which "optimized" decks exist by mixing up clans. It would seem that "historic" cards (ones that are several years’ old) have an unchallenged place in decks that work well in ELO and, as a result, are greatly limiting the emergence of new deck types.

- The format has dramatically improved with the arrival of new clans and particularly new cards which mean that decks can be significantly improved (it is now possible to produce a proficient deck from each clan). By this, we’re not referring to stomp decks used to race to the top of the rankings, but rather to decks that work well in the ELO mode.

- More effective cards per clan also means greater possibilities of monoclan domination.

Our current aim is to give the ELO mode room to expand and evolve by adding a criterion to staff bans.

So this is what we propose to breathe new life into the ELO mode:

The age of cards will become an important factor in what we decide to ban from the ELO mode. The older a card is, the more it runs the risk of being banned. This will enable us to dislodge certain cards that have become fixtures in ELO decks and, in doing so, make way for new cards to emerge.

We will select between 0 and 4 cards per clan (at each wave of bans) which we can ban based on this criterion.

For example, let’s take a look at an All Stars deck that is currently very effective in ELO. Marina (2007), Jessie (2008 ) and Randy (2008 ) very often have a place in their star category. If we ban Marina and Randy, Nathan might find his place or would at least have the chance of doing so. In the same way, the presence of Uranus partly prevents the creation of a new reducer for the Sakrohm clan because of his dominance. Several cards may not seem worth considering because of their direct competition within the clan. However, we believe they could provide interesting alternatives (I'm thinking here of Leviatonn VS Klawz or Stalfhaust).

This new criterion of play would allow us to better manage the game's evolution. We would fix dates for new bans every X months, of course taking the time to first discuss this with the community, as we did with the last wave of bans.

Banned "historic" cards would then be definitively expelled from the ELO mode.

In short this new system would allow us to:
- Refresh the ELO mode on a regular basis by providing genuine renewal to the metagame.
- Give new character cards a chance to make their Mark on the game mode.
- Allow new deck types to emerge by combining the various clans without having to play/challenge certain unavoidable cards (by getting rid of “historic” cards, players would have more scope for creativity).
- Reduce the power of monoclans in the game mode.

Initially, each clan would not be affected in the same way but over time a real change in the mode’s playstyle could emerge.
Ultimately we feel these suggested changes will provide ELO devotees with yet more scope for discovery and enjoyment.

These are our proposals. We very much look forward to hearing any comments or suggestions you may have on them.

Did you think ban the cards with stars no points?

-DJ Korr Cr: 4 stars (banned card) + 5 stars = 9 stars if you want including in your deck.
-Uranus: 2 stars + 3 stars = 5 stars
- El Divino: 3 stars + 5 stars = 8

Witn this methode you can play with every card but if you use banned cards you deck will be poor.

@DeepEnd : I was actually talking about the complexity when that concerns just to have a different way to create a deck for ELO (and that would be specific just for ELO, that changes many things in a large scale, perhaps too large). The most difficult thing is putting some balance in it and wait for players to actually approve it. That is complicated because you will be asking all the players to adapt to a totally different way of thinking their deck.

The idea is really interesting but we don't want to modify drastically the mode that a lot of players enjoys.

Like I said, our objective right now is just to improve Ban rotation.

Wouldn't by far the simplest solution be to just rejig the stats of universally acknowledged OP cards (except Crs perhaps) and also universally acknowledged unusable cards then unban them all? Example, make Graksmxxt a 6/4 rather than 8/5, give Diego stats of 3/5 rather than 2/3 and a good ability, etc. etc. Make all cards near enough equally good, just in different ways rather than some better than others... It would be a difficult job to manage this entirely but it could sort out problems of balance and lack of diversity simultaneously. If UR concentrates on making all clans equally good in elo, bans could become unneccessary... No need to change the 25* limit, just change cards stats, or re-release new more playable/less OP versions...

Many of the strong newer cards were designed to compete or dominate the old strong cards. removing the old strong cards simply makes the newer overpowered cards ever stronger and the games will revolve around them even more

what i would propose

an ELO that uses a smaller pool of cards - regardless of age. this is one way to control power creep. make 6-7 powered cards more playable again. we may have a larger pool of cards to pick from but we are definitely picking only the top cards. a smaller pool of cards is unlikely to increase the number of cards being used but at least we will be using and facing cards that have been underused/neglected. continue to give Cr prizes for ELO

develop new cards based on the adjusted ELO format.

remove/reduce Cr prizes from DT!

allow a format that uses all cards with few penalties and offer good prizes for it.

Got to agree with post 264.

"remove/reduce Cr prizes from DT!"

That itself made elo less rewarding. 3 DJ's or Guru's on DT then a Sum Sam Cr on elo during a week long competition is just so disappointing considering elo is more competitive than DT

We take note of all the propositions that were made to do a survey and have a more large vision of what players would like to see and study how this could be done.

For now we have those ideas that meet our objectives we'll certainly include in the survey :

To forbid new cards too strong faster.
To forbid more than 1 card of 5 stars in the deck.
To forbid the X clans more played.
To reset bans to 0 each year (except Big 5, Jackie, etc.) and redo the bans through the year.
To modify the rythm of the bans from the staff to fixed dates each few months.
To modify the vote system for players, allowing perhaps more card to be banned weekly.
To create a point system for cards to allow the construction of a deck in ELO.
To find a way to make player vote more often for weekly bans.
To add a random factor to weekly bans.

I thank you for your participation here, a lot of really interestings things to think about.

I remind you that the first proposal we made about aging cards is totally discarded.
