Yeah he really isn't that bad. Making your opponent go first(out of position) is a huge edge. I get 1300 on a weekly basis if I play but I never done it with a Leader since way back when Eklore was legal for elo. So I guess I was a little shocked

Ashigaru isn't the whole reason but its a fun tech card to use. Going second and making your opponent play out of position gives you easy reads even when you have a below par hand. Now if I had that 2* cr this would be pretty good. The two stop cards have been the real mvp though because they set up the big plays in a heavy soa week(especially against Junkz and Roots)
