..is not random.
The rules is that the player with the highest sum of (yellow) stars will start first (in case of equality, it's random), UNLESS you've got Ashigaru, then it's always your

Just to extract into full sentence...

"highest sum of (yellow) stars"

Are you saying:

First person to CHOOSE a card during a battle is the person with the highest sum of yellow stars in their playing hand.

I previously assumed that it was the challenger who selects first, I stand corrected.

Starting second (as Ashigaru ability give you), is considered strategically better.

I already suspected something like that. When I'm evoing a bunch of level 2 card I always went second to pick a card.

Im EVOing all my 5star cards (some are 3, some are 4) But ive had the first play, with 3 star cards and Ashigaru at a 4 star... agaisnt players with a total of less than 17!

How does that happen?

Maybe i missed something, in which case i apologise, but I dont get it?

Maybe you missed the count of a card. I've done that then had to double look to see that the method was working -- I just wasn't LOL.
