We made a series of interviews between the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012. These interviews persuaded us to complete a project we were thinking about for a long time: the setting up of a cards rotation system.
Right now there are 800 cards in the collection and it’s already too much for the game to run smoothly. The players who have all the cards always use the strongest of a clan and even if it makes them win matches they are frustrated not to see more variety. For their part, the beginners have to face a huge collection and they often feel quite lost.
We want to create a list that includes only characters released in the past two years (+ leaders and starter characters) and change several rooms which allow players to only use the characters in this list. We won’t impose this list in every rooms because our goal is not to stop you from playing the oldest cards, for example the DM T2 and Survivor T2 won’t change at all even if names will be different.
Let’s see what will happen in detail:
1/ Create a list of characters called «Standard» which will be updated every 6 months:
This list will contain Leaders, Starter Decks characters, all characters released within these last 2 years before the update (LD included) and characters which will be released after the update.
In practical terms it will give about ten characters allowed in each clan (with more or less the same number of characters in each level). Note that the new clans will keep all their characters. It will be taken into account in the cards releases planning. We will act as to give each clan what they need to be efficient.
2/ Creation of 3 new deck formats:
Extended Format: all characters allowed, no doubles, 40 stars max., equivalent to T2.
Standard Format: Standard characters only, 40 stars mac., no doubles.
Standard Format 25: Standard characters only, 25 stars max., no doubles, list of characters banned if it’s needed (for Leaders for example).
Note that the T1 format disappears.
3/ Finally, create or adapt battle rooms:
The Standard battle room : Standard Format with a DT every other hour.
Instead of opening a less than 26 stars (T1) room and a more than 26 stars (T2) one, you will have one single room BUT you’ll face opponents whose decks have a number of stars close to yours. This mechanism corresponds better to the reality of DTs today where every players try to find the good combination which will give the most points while winning matches with 20 to 30 stars decks. Merging the two rooms will allow you to keep this optimization spirit without the «artificial» side of the stars limitation. This flexibility combined with the Standard format will give a breath of fresh air to DTs while keeping specificity.
This room will be the ONLY DT room. There won’t be any T2, T1 or ELO Daily Tournament. We know that it’s not harmless and it was a very difficult decision to take. Some of you struggled a long time to obtain very expensive collectors which allow them to improve their results in DT and their disappointment is understandable. Nevertheless, DT’s today are clearly dominated by some decks not to say several highly efficient cards which is not healthy in a competitive game mode.
The ELO room: Standard format 25 (with potentially some bans), same rules except that there won’t be DTs in this room any more.
Use the Standard rules in the ELO mode sounds quite obvious to us. It will allow some regular changes to the mode and it will remove old characters which cause balancing problems. It should reduce the number of staff banned characters and no more characters banned by players.
About DT, we think that the ELO mode is pretty different from the DT. There is no reason to mix these two game modes. Today, ELO players have the opportunity to win free credits without playing in DT. Tomorrow they’ll have to choose between Dt and ELO which is already the case for players playing in other modes (Survivor or DM).
3 Deathmatch rooms:
Extended DM: Extended format, current DM rules.
Standard DM: Standard format, current DM rules.
Standard DM 25: Standard format 25, current DM rules.
The Extended DM will be equivalent to the current DM T2, only the name will change.
The Standard DM will allow players with big decks but with characters in the Standard list. The DM T1 will disappear and we’ll add a Standard 25 room. We noticed that the rare players in DM T1 were more ELO players than DT T1 players. We hope that the Standard DM 25 will be more used than the current DM T1 room. If it’s not the case, we will think about it. If there are DM T1 players here who are reading this message and don’t want this change to Standard DM 25, don’t hesitate to let us know.
3 Survivor rooms.
Extended Survivor: Extended format.
Standard Survivor: Standard format.
Standard Survivor 25: Standard format 25.
Same idea as Deathmatch.
And the rooms which won’t change:
Fight Club: the deck you want.
Warehouse no pillz: Training NoPill
Does being a mod mean you totally ignore what you just typed? You go from
"to support your argument with a few weeks of statistics doesnt make sense. especially since the changes have not happened yet. so i dont get the jan 31 2011 reference."
Note the Jan 31 to Dec 31 in the space of like 2 posts. And for reference it went from 12 to 15 to 14 life.
"Dec 31 2011???? no my friend ELO changed from 15 to 14 much much much earlier than that"
And it also goes both ways, you can't claim it'll be roses anymore than we can claim this will be bad. And yes, no one can say anything for sure either way since no one official has come to say anything. At all. If you really want to reduce frustration, please use your official connections to get some answers or get some one who can come and post some info. I know its not your fault that no official response has happened, but I think you can understand why so many are frustrated. Sorry if my temper is short, but its been over a week with not a peep.
Currently at about 1350ish in ELO, haven't seen two similar decks in who knows how long. In the last few games, I've fought Skeelz, Uppers/All Stars, Piranas, Rescue, GHEIST, and Junkz/Nightmare. I'm running Vortex/Nightmare myself, winning the vast majority of my games. Curiously enough, I'm not running into these clone decks you guys are talking about.
The most common thing I see over and over again are GHEIST and Piranas mono.
Piranas mono hasn't felt overpowered to me for a long, long time. They're a well-rounded clan but they lack serious gap power.
GHEIST can be intimidating but they have as many weaknesses as they do strengths. All-Stars eat them alive, heavy attack manip clans can 3-round them if they're not careful, Skeelz, Piranas, and Nightmare all have at least a slight edge over them... And hey, if that's not enough for you, almost every clan has at least 1 good Stop card these days!
In case I'm just really lucky, please tell me what clone decks you're seeing in ELO this week, so I can be prepared.
The conversation on this forum has gotten a little too combative. We are all here hoping to make the game better so there is no reason to attack anyone.
For my part, I don't really care as long as I can continue to play the other formats. I will give standard a chance but if it is lame, un-fun and lacks variety then I will just play something else. The only real issue is whether the other formats will be eliminated.
My hope is that the T1 issue may be settled since there doesn't seem to be a single player anywhere who thinks that getting rid of all T1 rooms is a good idea. The format that is really being threatened is elo- primarily because that format gets the majority of the prize support. UR likely wants to introduce Standard as the most heavily supported format which will push elo out of its favored position.
Here's a question to all you elo players- how important are the elo prizes? If elo continued in its current form but the weekly prizes were reduced would you still play it? How would you feel if there was no weekly tournament but the elo format continued in a DT room and in Survivor?
I only read the first page.. But does anyone else realize this will force people to buy packs for the new cards?
I don't buy new packs, I don't own very many of the new character releases, I only play ELO using what will now be seen as "ancient" cards.
If this goes through I won't be able to play ELO anymore. I haven't bought credits in over a year, and I hadn't planned on starting now since I have a decent collection built up.
The only reason I play this game is for the competition in ELO, and it seems like I won't be able to do that anymore.
You're going to be forcing a lot of players to retire from UR..
@Matrix- short answer: yes, we know.
Also, the unfortunate truth is that if you haven't bought credits in over a year then UR probably doesn't care too much about your opinion. UR is a business and it will seek out the players who are willing to lay down at least a little money once in a while.
For me the issue is what are we getting for the time and money we are putting into the game. The point of this thread is to make sure that UR continues to be a game worth playing.
"Also, the unfortunate truth is that if you haven't bought credits in over a year then UR probably doesn't care too much about your opinion. UR is a business and it will seek out the players who are willing to lay down at least a little money once in a while."
those players will start feeling really lonely when players like GWN Matrix (the majority of players, because lets face it in free games the majority of players wont pay a dime to have fun) start playing other games. and btw i have spent what i consider to be alot of money for UR but this stops here, and i think that goes for othet people like me.
UR is a community-driven game. Every player is valuable. Any change that alienates a large portion of existing players is potentially fatal to the game. That's the bottom line.
I want to try to stick it out. I hope that the developers will let us know what's happening soon, and that it will be a constructive solution. But I already have friends in UR who are looking to migrate to different games. Things just don't seem stable right now, and many people don't want to invest time in a game that's not stable.
I wanted to point out that its the players who pay money to play the game that allow it to continue. If you enjoy the game you should support it by spending at least a little money once in a while.
But there is actually a more important point that I was trying to make. Namely, I was looking for compromises that might make it possible for elo to continue in some form after the introduction of standard. It seems likely that UR will eventually introduce something like standard as its most heavily supported format which will push elo out of its favored position.
So- would you continue to play elo with less prize support? What if everything was essentially the same but with lower jackpots and no Cr awards?
