But the main problem is that 5* isn't optimal for a poisoner, and there is little justification for running a 5* Freak.

Freaks should be used in a 1/2 or a diminished 1/2 (3 characters). The Freak bonus will never make an actual difference in game mechanics more than once. Think of it this way: the first Freak in your draw has no bonus. The second Freak in your draw is the only one that has a bonus. If you get a draw with 1 Freak, you will have 1 character with no bonus. If you get a draw with 2 Freaks, which is the ideal, you still have 1 character with no bonus. And if you draw 3 Freaks, then you get 2 characters with no bonus. So your Freaks will often not have their bonus. The more you try to get your Freaks to have consistent bonus, the more you risk a terrible draw of 3 or even 4 Freaks in your hand.

For a 5* to be justified, it has to be a perfect combination of stats, ability AND bonus. Even the topend 5*s are worse than the topend 4*s if they don't have their bonus. This is why there are really no 5* Skeelz justifiable outside of Caelus.

In other words, 5* is too much of an investment on a character in a clan where you have to be viable without bonus. And also there are really no topend 5* poisoners.

That being said, Baldovino isn't just a poisoner. Baldovino is really awesome and terrifying and underrated. Mainly because pill removal always has a minimum attached to it.'

I disagree. If you have pill removal then by pilling perfectly you can put your opponent at a strong disadvantage and if you pill perfectly with a + pill card you will be at an advantage but not as great. For example if you 7 pill Boldavino against a 7 pilled Tsuabme you will have 5 pills while your opponent has 3, meaning you have 60% more pills and can afford to pill 2 against a card with no pills and still be at an advantage. While if you did the same thing with Grudj you would have 40% more pills and if the opponent has 5 pills he is still able to bluff and beat you. That's just in general however you need to take in the fact that you will have poison and more pills in play. If you can afford to pill 2 extra at any round without being disadvantaged, with a poison taking damage every turn on top of your base damage inflicted on the first turn you are at a high advantage.

It can be argued that - pill cards are only really usable on the first two turns but that isn't true. Unless your opponent for some reason pilled 9 in the first two rounds (you win automatically) then you will still be able to use his ability and with - pill cards some people feel the need to waste heaps of pills to be under the pill reduction limit which helps you win anyway.
