Old player and former Moderator here who just came back recently. It seems there are no longer any penalties for abandoning matches am I correct? As it turns out some players purposely abandon on the 1st round when they lose their first play. Again, purposely. It is not as if they have an emergency because they will end up winning the DT with a ridiculous amount of points in the end, it is a part of their strategy.
Abandoning purposely should never be an intelligent strategy in this game just to get a quick fresh start one can win instead of actually "losing" the said abandoned match and get lesser points for the time it will consume. I do get a free measly 15 or so points but yeah, instead of them straight losing, they get a fresh start that they can win, and quick. Instead of me getting 20+ points, I get 15.
I grind DTs often and I have already come across this tactic several times from the same players. I will not name names. Mods/Admins can check battle history and DT rankings to confirm. Ever wonder how some reach 600+ points? That's because some hardly ever lose and this is not always because of skill. Lose the first round? Just abandon and restart.
Thing is, it's a tournament, so in that case the person who abandons the match is your competition.
If you built a deck that is very effective against his deck that means you deserve to be able to win while also making him lose, imagine if you were in 2nd place and had an effective deck against the 1st place, but instead of beating him he just run away and gives you a measly 15 points, it doesn't sound right for any kind of competition.
It also makes the game more unbalanced, we know that some cards/clans are more solid than others, for instance, a deck full of card with very strong abilities and low base stats will suffer a lot against GHEIST/Roots, for that reason we try to balance our deck to be suitable for every situation, specially if we aim to win a DT, but by abandoning matches you can simply flee away against GHEIST/Roots. Same for playing Rescue vs Raptors/Pirana/Nightmare.
It's not something that annoys me, I understand that it's part of the game now, but we should really reconsider it to make the game more balanced, a little penalty would be enough, we actually used to have it in the past like 2009~2010 if my memory is still working
15 points in 10 seconds sounds great to me. I won the 20:00 type 1 tonight and a player abandoned to me twice in a minute. 30p in one minute.
I think people are complaining too much about something that doesn't make sense. It's like if in poker you complain that you have less outs to draw to a straight as opposed as to a flush, and you think a straight would have more value than the flush. Our if you think that it's unfair that you draw a stalemate in your chess game when you had a big advantage. Our if you think that a shot off the post should count as half a goal.
People just like crying for nothing but if I can find ways to win the tournament so can anyone else.
