I am noticing this trend more and more in DT and was wondering what other players experience. In just 30 mins of a tourney I had 5 players let the clock run down to prevent me from finishing the game. This 'tactic' of denying points seems like an abuse of a system that protects players on poor connections (it used to be -20 points for a timeout).
Has this now become a common practice?
I don't play much of DT lately, but having the same experience a few times also. It's frustrating to lose time and sometimes also not able to finish certain missions because of that. Maybe the timeouts should be somehow penalized again, no matter if you have a poor connection or not, it's just not fair to other players.
I find that sometimes they just let the game timeout. Example from the last DT:
I guessed correct and blocked a fury on R2. Opponent had 0 pills and two 5* cards remaining. I had two 3* cards and easily enough pills to KO.
Opponent let the clock run all the way down on turn 3 which lost me:
10 points from winning with both cards
2 points for winning round 4
2 points for a KO with 1 pill remaining.
I gained +3 for the timeout and lost 11 potential points. Probably lost a little time also as I doubt it would take 40s (the length of round 3) to play 2 cards with 0 pills remaining.
I think there should be a penalty for timeout should apply if you leave any time after the first 5 seconds of a match as this would still allow 'tactical' quitting. I am not sure how it would be calculated but I also think that the +3 for winning by timeout is far too low in most cases and should either be raised or a calculated figure based on the cards you had in hand.
I mainly play on mobile and its very buggy for me, sometimes I am unable to pill and ill have to force close the app and open it again causing me to timeout quite frequently like 2 or 3 times per tourney.
But I do see quite a lot of sore losers when playing in tourney. Like if you beat them perfectly with your first card, they just let time run out.
Timeouts should be -20 imo. I don't think there should even be an option for "tactical" quitting. I also think they should raise the points for winning via timeout, as its not fair to lose the 11 points from the aforementioned example. I also think that players that lose by timeout should have a 2 minute delay before they can start their next match.
Joe, as it was preiously stated, there are some bugs with the game that make you timeout even from winning positions. Hence, a 2 minute delay after getting punished with an undeserved defeat is far too harsh. I do think that abandoning should be made legit. If you deem the game as lost, just give it up and go to the next one, you are saving both players' time. Moreover, if the excuse is to avoid colluding, you can still collude without abandoning and play fast thus, losing only marginal amounts of time
