This is both a rate my team topic and discussion of why La Junta (or even Fang Pi for that matter) aren't more often used in ELO. Here's the deck I've been using for this week (best I've done in a quite a while in ELO):
Naginata is an easy victory and possibly the best bluff in the game I think due to her unique ability. Wyre provides very useful SoA at a measly three stars, Laura provides a potential 2HKO opportunity at three stars, and both the two stars are extremely good at winning battles. Rest of the deck is pretty much there for damage purposes.
Now, on to why La Junta and Fang Pi aren't used more in ELO. Here's the pros I could think of for both clans:
-Both clans very rarely, if ever, have banned cards due to a lack of people using these clans.
-As previously said, these clans are rarely used so opponents don't really expect or prepare for them.
-These two clans, along with possibly Berzerk, are the only clans even moderately capable of 2HKO'ing in the new ELO.
-In fact, La Junta is the sole clan with the only card capable of OHKO'ing in the new ELO (that card being Dacote).
-Both clans feature a very nice class of two stars. Chan, Marlysa Cr, Kusuri, Thormund, Wardog, and Victoria are all excellent cards.
-Both clans feature terrific four and five stars collections
-Both clans have had an excellent addition recently in Wyre and Yoshida
So why aren't they used more?
I like La Junta a lot due to the 2hko threat that they can still threaten. the top FPC cards cant really threaten 2hko as effectively as la junta
they have good 2 stars but the problem is the low dmg that they have at 2 stars. winning 2 rounds without a KO is usually not enough for La Junta if you are not going to inflict 11-13 damage.
I think it's the lack of attack manipulation, you hardly see Sayura or Gatline out in Elo, there just isn't space for them. I play a bit of FPC myself, half-deck being Fei, Kusuri, Heitachi and Zhu Tang. To be honest, FPC and LJ really lose out to attack manipulation clans such as Sentinel and Junkz and also to Gheist/Roots since they cannot cut up the DRs from the SoA clans...
I agree with AmberRed, I would say the lack of atk manipulation, and also a vulnerability to SOA, a lot of the power cards, especially in la junta suffer badly against SOA
as a matter of fact, I've seen a lot of la junta decks this week in ELO, due to the ld missions, monoclan or biclan and they are decent, I've lost a number of games to them but overall they are pretty manageable with a good deck which has the proper tools.
Well. La Junta I haven't tried, but as halfdeck FPC is quite good. Kusuri, Heitachi, Nakata and Zhu Tang are all nice. Why? Because of solid power. If you want to use them, pick cards with high power. Zhu Tang especially an win game alone and thats alot for 3 stars. Heitachi has power protection and potential to 9 dmg(with fury). Nakata is good even without stopping
Naginata, the best bluff in the game? Kolos says "Sorry kid, maybe when you're older."
Another thing, i'm really bored of playing against La Junta. I'd say I beat them enough to say that I don't have a problem defeating them, it just gets... well, boring. I see them in probably 2/3 deathmatches, and enough to notice a pattern in ELO.
Let's keep it varied folks!
I can't speak for FPC, but La Junta aren't used in ELO because people write them off as a 2 hit KO gimmick clan who can be easily countered. Both of these things are false and that is why people will continually lose to La Junta in the hands of good players. If you build a balanced deck instead of stockpiling damage and praying for 2 hit KOs, then you'll find that La Junta has a very powerful and very solid 2 hit trading deck that can out damage most opponents.
If you think Junta has a major vulnerability to SoA, then you're playing them wrong. Ray, Gatline, Bryan, Wyre, Jane Ramba, Thorimund, and Victoria are all Tier 1 cards that are fine against SoA, if not ridiculously powerful (Vic). If you run Isatis, Trish, and Dean in the same deck then yes, you'll find your deck is weak to SoA. That is your fault, not La Juntas. Yea you won't have easy mode against SoA clans like rescue can, but you can be on par.
@Anderson The low star hands are fine. Like any low star hand you're probably going to need to win three rounds against higher star hands in order to win. Against other low star hands, Junta is fine on damage. 4 damage on 2 star cards is standard if not better in the metagame. Your 3 star cards will likely have 5-7 damage which is average to high. You also have a DR at the 3* and 2* levels, which allows you to trade a bit easier.
