Veterans are well aware that we have always wanted the ELO to be both a highly strategic and very open game mode. Our desire to have as many strategic options as possible has lead us to revise the ELO mode rules several times. First of all, we created the list of banned characters gathering those who appeared to be most abused. This list enabled us to solve the main balance issues.
Next, however, the metagame gradually crystallized around the two or three dominant clans at the time. In order to prevent the metagame from stagnating, we then introduced a ban on the clan having dominated the previous week. Unfortunately, this course of action did not work as well as we had hoped. Though it provided a certain variety among the clans used to play, it mostly led up to a very negative feature: the "cycling" phenomenon that we are currently experiencing between Roots and Sentinel (and also All Stars for good measure). In addition, the ban of an entire clan is too drastic an initiative.
I suggest only one more change to this ELO banning mode. Any card wiht more than 15% (or 12% for example) of the votes, independtly if they are to save or to ban the card, will be banned, why? Because any card how get so many attention it obvious that should be banned because his influence in the game is really important, doing this we avoid the last minute votes.
For me, no matter what's been done, ELO is still drawing me mad. It's more unpredictible than random in DTs! You never what expect in pilling from opponent. Sometimes i think that people there are only supposed to crush every poor player who are not able to obtain "superior" cards like Zatman, Dorian, Toro or Striker. Every single of them (of us, should i say).
It's boring to see all the same cards. Zatman, Dorian, Striker, Marina, Rolph, Methane, Toro (personal number one most hated), Sheitane, Kolos, Kenny, Marlysa CR, Kerozinn CR (Yes! I've seen them more often than 90% of UR cards!), Smokey, Dalhia, Tula, Tyd, Oxen... The most annoing thing for me is that no matter what strategy i use (in pilling, deck composing etc.), only my stubborn can make me reach 1200+. What i gei in two fights, i lost in one. It's all because ELO is still for richest not better players. It's all up to luck, then cards then skills. The only thing that i'm proud of is fact i learnt much due to playing there.
Still, moments like Olga's win with Zatman or Dean Crushing Dorian or Tank winning with Robb are precious!
@Gta0004 Yes that who is generally best at ELO, but they shouldn't get a room with the best reward built just for them. The fact that everyone in the top levels of elo uses the same 2 cards lets you see how unbalanced that is. I was having more fun with Sentinels one week and roots the next. Least that changed how to play the environment of ELO every week. It was my understanding that elo was a gameroom that was "designed for a more strategic gameplay based on Deck building." (straight from the rules) Instead I know 3 of the cards that are in every top 100 deck (Zatman, Dorian, and Oxen) and can guess the next one (Wendel/Samantha/Nellie). I feel that Upper are more than capable of being a top tier clan without Zatman, and he is ruining elo.
