So, since the big ELO discussion brought up the fact that way too many cards in the game never see play because nothing quite measures up to the staples, I'd love to have an "underused card appreciation thread". There are cards out there that you just put into your deck for missions or whatever reason and they won you more matches than any staple and have a special place in your heart.
For me there's a number of them:
1) Baby Q, 4* 6/6 SoB with -2/min 1 DR. You will aways, and I mean always see Ditha, Malicia or even the very underused 7 powered 4* girls and simply not put Baby Q into your deck.
What are you missing on? 6 damage for one pill, or someboy overpilling on a Sob Dr. LOL. Also, likely no freaks poison, lol.
2) Cheep - 8/2 +2 life bonus, stop: -3 dam/ min 1. Well, stop cards are vanilla cards most of the time, and this guy is bonus dependent to boot.
What are you missing on? A bloody annoying 8/4 wall which makes SoA pointless because what SoA means most of the time is no DR. He makes people play stupid - heck, you can actually pill against their SoA and win for ALL damage reduced, making a 4 gap and turning your hand into a 3 rond win one.
Gork - 7/8 SoA bonus with poison self for 2 min/4. XU52 has att manip, Mechakolos is a 1 hit KO. Otherwise people just don't use him enough.
What are you missin out on? Pretty much a bloody honey badger who doesn't give a f**k. Unconditiona 7/8 with SoA? Otherwise he kicks ass.
Ah, I see what you mean by that. I still wouldn't call them completely different, though. Brody is capable of acting like an 8-powered Treeman, and he also happens to have the added bonus of being able to pull a 12-life gap out of his ass at any time. I'd argue that he expands on the idea, rather than replacing it. Three cheers for semantic arguments.
Hmmm, what you are saying is true in a way, but misguided in another. Yes, with no fury Brody is an 8 power Treeman. However, he is also a 4* Treeman, And as such he's a vanillaish 8 powered 4* who doesnt help KO, and if he was only an 8* Treeman he would never be put in any deck most likely. If you look at it that way, Treeman is strictly better because you get the rather mediocre ability for only 2*.
Is the argument that a character like Wakai is better because he has attack manipulation which helps him win rounds easier?
Treeman's SOA isn't necessarily to stop DRs (nor would I agree that SOA, in general, is a counter to DRs....it's a counter to being beaten by cards that are better than you. Cards like Spyke, Mona, Graxx, Uranus, and others go from being OP to being mediocre).
I will say that, minus Flora, Treeman stops any pesky defeat card (assuming bonus is active).
Win a round with Wakai against Kusuri and it's only 1 life gap. Win a round with Treeman against Kusuri and it's a 4 life gap. Yet, Wakai is viewed as the better card than Treeman because of his bonus.
That extra +1 life comes in handy. How many matches have been won/lost over 1 life? I understand cards like Jessie or Wakai are preferred, but aren't necessarily better than Treeman. They're just easier to play because they offer manipulation. (Personally, I'd go Jessie > Treeman > Wakai > Dave > Krash/Sentogan)
Um, this isn't exactly a diss on Treeman, but rather a discussion on his role as compared to Brody's and function withing the clan as compared to Zero Dead. Really. Treeman is a 7/4 SoA 2*. Any SoA card has a million uses, but if you have an above average dmg on a 2* (which is 4) then that SoA is deffinitely there to help get it through if need be (among any other uses like bluff calling defeaters and stuff). He isn't a bad card.
He, however isn't anything like Brody, and taking a hand with Brody in it and replacing Brody with Treeman immediately changes how you play that hand immensly. Brody is a 12 life gap threat 4* which is something you'd put in a deck. If he was an 8/4 4*... you wouldn't. Not at 4*. You can tripple old and 10 pill fury Brody and win (was very popular in ELO last week), you can't really do that with Treeman. And you don't have to, Treeman serves a completely different role.
However, as compared to Zero Dead, Treeman doesn't help KO. He helps gap. But as far as his stats go, his clan has an abundance of 7/4 (or thereabout) guys at 3* all with additional abilities (he is only really standout against pussycats and skeelz reducers). Gheist don't. This kinda makes Zero Dead somewhat exceptional in his clan, while Treeman is mostly filler in his. Not bad filler by any means, but not nearly standout.
Brody changes how you play because he becomes the sole focus on the match, while Treeman is an afterthought (put 5 pillz on Treeman and watch yourself win every round....no one puts that much stock into Treeman while everyone focuses on Brody).
Brody's gap acts as a very nice bluff throughout the entire match, it puts you on edge. Treeman doesn't do that, which is why Brody is considered to be much better than Treeman. But those 2 extra stars can go a long way in an ELO deck.
Also, you aren't looking to KO in ELO. Treeman gets past the Piranas/Nightmare/Pussycats DRs while still giving you a 4 life gap while Zero Dead gives you a 2 life gap. Zero Dead also doesn't prevent the 2HKO fear with a 7 dmg card and a furious 5dmg card. Treeman gives you 17 health and in no way will you be KOd in the match, which gives you ample opportunity to pick when you want to strike next rather than having to defend from a possible KO.
Treeman's biggest competition is Flora, which is a completely different playstyle
Zero Dead's biggest competition is Arkn, which is very similar, just a matter if you want to win pill battles or if you want to pill less.
The Roots aren't a KO kind of clan either, they're a "win more rounds" kind of clan, similar to Ulu Watu. Roots heaviest hitters (Shakrah and Lou) are ELO banned.
