So, since the big ELO discussion brought up the fact that way too many cards in the game never see play because nothing quite measures up to the staples, I'd love to have an "underused card appreciation thread". There are cards out there that you just put into your deck for missions or whatever reason and they won you more matches than any staple and have a special place in your heart.
For me there's a number of them:
1) Baby Q, 4* 6/6 SoB with -2/min 1 DR. You will aways, and I mean always see Ditha, Malicia or even the very underused 7 powered 4* girls and simply not put Baby Q into your deck.
What are you missing on? 6 damage for one pill, or someboy overpilling on a Sob Dr. LOL. Also, likely no freaks poison, lol.
2) Cheep - 8/2 +2 life bonus, stop: -3 dam/ min 1. Well, stop cards are vanilla cards most of the time, and this guy is bonus dependent to boot.
What are you missing on? A bloody annoying 8/4 wall which makes SoA pointless because what SoA means most of the time is no DR. He makes people play stupid - heck, you can actually pill against their SoA and win for ALL damage reduced, making a 4 gap and turning your hand into a 3 rond win one.
Gork - 7/8 SoA bonus with poison self for 2 min/4. XU52 has att manip, Mechakolos is a 1 hit KO. Otherwise people just don't use him enough.
What are you missin out on? Pretty much a bloody honey badger who doesn't give a f**k. Unconditiona 7/8 with SoA? Otherwise he kicks ass.
"...a round won is only as valuable as the impact it leaves..." As an Ulu Watu player I can say that this has been my downfall a number of occasions.
I have a funny story regarding Lorna, one that will justify her being placed here. I was playing mono-Skeelz in a tournament and came across a GHEIST deck that included, among other things, Mechakolos. I started off placing three pillz on Lorna, and he responded by trying to OHKO me with Mechakolos. At the end of that round, I had four life left and he had one pill left. The rest of the fight was not pretty.
New one: I'm actually quite happy with how Norman has been working out for me as a psych card. In mono berserk for classic play (say you're just enjoying yourself and doing missions while you're at it) t's an 8/6 3* with what looks like a flaw. And, well, it IS a flaw. But as far as low pill bluffs go he's working - if someone beats him, cool, thy're pilling to beat an 8 power guy, if not, you got the dude for up to 6 damage for very little pills and a 3*.
Another bit I've noticed while doing Skeelz missions during the past week is that their abundance of +att and pill manip is actually quite above the curve in classic (provided you have the right cards, but the big 5* is Minerva. Which is amazing.)
One thing that seemd to work out for me surprisingly often, for reasons I can't explain, is going 3 pills + fury on Andy Ld in the first courage round. I started doing it to try to hurry up the Andy Ld mission which was going painfully slow, but the mission had been slow in the first place because people were simply not trying too hard to beat Andy Ld. And noone was throwing any DR's under him, either. So sure, it's a 6 pill investment for 6 damage, but the rest of your hand is likely to be very stupid to play against afterwards - it's all either Redra/Plunk/Minerva + crazy ass attack manipulators. And the further it goes the stronger your attack manip guys (and Minerva) become. And if you lose the Andy Ld round, you're still doing fine w pills...
Oh, and he isn't underrated or overlooked as much as too new to get a proper rating, but from how I see people reacting to Clive he's the most hilariously broken card ever printed (in the "not an obvious mistake" category such as IDK Jackie or Spyke). I've seen silly forks before, and less shaky ones, too, but he seems to cause very strange reactions (and always terrible ones), at least in Classic. There isn't too much SoB around right now, granted, but still...
What makes me paranoid around Clive is a brutal 2HKO I received where my opponent dumped all of his pillz into Konrad with fury and followed up with Clive. I couldn't sit down after that and since then I've been very wary of the both of them.
Dear god, that's nasty... You can sorta see it coming and totaly mess it up with either a SoA or a KO of your own, but it's still nasty. However, Clive with bonus up is still quite nasty however you look at it, you either pill to beat an 8 power guy and take 3 (so if he bluffed you're down pills and you're unlikely to be at a large gap situation), or you get hit for 6, possibly rather cheaply, so even if you stick a cheap DR under him it's not likely the win cost Clives player too much.
Yeah, a lot of that dilemma was because I was running an Ulu Watu Standard deck, and they don't have all the fancy utility cards of the others, especially in Standard.
Speaking of the Ulu Watu, Janice deserves a place on this list because an 8/5 3* who becomes an 11/5 against SOA is nothing to scoff at. The only reason I don't run her is because I desperately need Lin Bee's SOA and Shaun's regularity.
The lack of SOA really isn't too much of an issue; I'm just a little miffed the Ulu Watu lacks the Swiss-Army Knife utility of other clans.
Besides, the main thing I'm going for in my Standard deck is raw stats (mostly power, because UW cards have sub-par damage). The only thing I have in the way of healing is Eddie and Numar, and that's because they're the only Standard 4*s the Ulu Watu have (other than Noland, whom I'm also using). Every other card is dedicated to winning rounds, with the partial exceptions of Shaun and Lin Bee.
