So this thread has spawned from my constant despise towards the current DT system. It rewards the player who can expose the greatest loophole and grind out the most amount of matches within an hour rather than rewarding the best skilled player.
DT has changed from a "tournament" to a chore. Playing against the same mono decks every match is not only annoying, but unfulfilling, to the point where there is no point in playing at all. The mode with the most variety is Duel mode, which is kind of pathetic in my eyes. ELO has some variety, but that's about it. Otherwise, the best decks to use are already established and everyone will copy that preset in an attempt to outwit the other player playing the same deck.
My proposals for DT are vague, but are something like this:
-A mode that rewards winners, rather than losers with a lesser * count deck.
-A mode that encourages variety. A good player should be able to win and compete with just about any deck.
Would a mode in which a player can only use a specific clan for no more than 3 matches work? Now, you can't expect to have a DT every other hour in which people have to switch decks after every 3 matches, so would the DT be revised to go from every other hour to 4 times a day? In turn, increasing the prizes that are awarded?
What if the DT were daily (rather than hourly) and the player that wins the most matches during the entire day in the DT room will be the champ?
I'll float out some more ideas. Any thoughts UR community?
I'm too much of a frump to be a moderator.
Also I would like some decent matchmaking based on star total (like the one standard had ). Everyone's complaining about running into the same deck, but that wouldn't be a problem if you ran 40*s or something. Obviously this would require not-stupid scoring rules, but that should be on the list anyway.
DT's haven't changed much over UR history, but the small changes do allow for an outrageous exploitation of oversights in the scoring system.
T2 is generally alright and varied. Name a clan and I've faced it.
T1, however, is so restrictive on * counts that it's no wonder people hardly play anything but atk manip.
For T1 place overplayed cards in the C group of penalties. Qubik, Rowdy, Martha, Jakson, Kerry, and Reeve are all regulars in T1.
years ago they use to track the most commonly used cards in ELO. not sure how hard it would be to script it, but a weekly tracking of most popular cards in DT -- followed by penalties the following week could work
would optimal decks exists??? sure. but by the time people have copied it then its time to switch again. this would keep the "better" players a step ahead --- would people be happier???? who knows. id be ok with it.
oh i miss the days of 5000+ player DTs where coming in top 25 was HUGE!
Can we not keep it on my topic than? Or I want copy right money.
A rotating penalty point system would be a pretty good idea to encourage different decks and presets. Like you said, by the time one person figured it out it'll be too late for everyone to copy. It would actually force people to think and create their own deck to maximize a DT.
That's one aspect of this game that is missing, the art of making a good deck.
It's all copy copy copy at this point.
