Hello Urban Rivals players,
During the last week we discussed about how to modify the ELO ban list.
But many players pointed out that more radical changes need to be done.
This is why we want to do a brief survey with you, proposing 3 ways to modify ELO mode in the future. Based on your choice, we will work in that direction only, so your advice is crucial here.
Your task is easy: to select option A, B or C.
Of course, you are welcome to write your opinions in the comments.
Here is a small summary of the 3 propositions:
A) ELO with ‘Points’
Every card will have a point value between 1 and 25. The stronger the card is, the more points it will have.
The points will change every week thanks to an algorithm. It will take many factors into account: how much the card is played, how many times a match is won thanks to that card, and so on.
A deck will have a restriction of maximum 25 stars and maximum 100 points. No doubles, no semi-evolved cards.
This mode will permit every card to be played in competitive matches. You can decide to pick a rather bad card to be able to play stronger cards. Playing a low-point card like Ricardo, for example, could make space to play a high-point card, like Vickie Cr.
The choice of how to balance your deck will be entirely yours, with no cards banned at all.
Everything is free… at a price!
The algorithm will change the value of the top and less used cards every week, so the format will be in a state of constant evolution. Most importantly, it will be the players who will decide these changes, just by playing in this mode!
B) ELO with ‘Banned and Limited cards’
The mode will have a list (to be determined) of banned cards. This list will feature only few characters, the most powerful of the game: Jackie Cr, Graksmxxt, excetera.
In addition to this little list, a new bigger one will be added: a limited list.
Only 1 card among the cards of this second list will be able to be played in your deck. For example, if you include the first card from this list in your deck, you will not be able to add any of the other limited cards.
The players votes will remain, but the cards chosen by you won’t go in the ‘banned cards list’, but in the ‘limited cards list’ for that week.
C) ELO with ‘Banned cards only’ (what we have now)
We will keep a ban list only, more or less similar to the one we have now. Adjustments to it will be done every 3/4 months.
We may try small changes to the deck format (for example, to limit to one the number of lv 5 cards in your deck, or to modify the number of stars in the deck), but nothing too ‘drastic’ like the other two propositions.

"You can't make counter decks easily to counter specific cards/clans. Plus, have you even tried playing an event with that much restriction? I bet if I make an event like that. You will take more than 3 days to come up with a good deck without getting any reference from people and then realise everyone is running that same few OP card."
Kind of sounds like what ELO should be like. A lot of strategy and various experiments ran each week to devise the right deck to get the best score. Not to mention, a good deck shouldn't be countered that easily or quickly.
Understandable meta game runs through presets, mainly because the game itself is affected by presets. Copy. Copy. Copy. I'm not saying game is a complicated concept at all. UR is VERY simple. But that doesn't mean making the best decks has to be just as simple. Easy to learn and understand, but shouldn't be as simple as "I spent enough $$, now I can buy the best presets".
Thing is, UR can only go so far with 8 card decks. At least Option A is a variety while options B and C will see the same kind of play there is now (with minimal player participation in the form of votes compared to 100% participation with regards to every match counting for something).
I think we should try options A and B for a month or so each. I can see there being a lot of problems with option A. As said in previous comments, how will the algorithm take into account the cards that not all people have or even can acquire (Kiki CR, DJ Korr CR).
How can new players be able to compete if the game is flooded with OP cards (which it will be)?. I would suggest that option A should be coupled with C if ever it gets the go ahead..
Secondly, i feel that the restrictions is what make elo what it is, otherwise it's just a lower version of t1.
Ok the reason why i want B is because i believe A is too good to be true, and in B everyone gets to choose a semi OP card. you might think that everyone will go for the same choice, but i strongly doubt that as there are so many good cards that dont exactly deserve a ban and they all fit different playing styles and different players could choose who to use.
for example the poorer people could use charecters like greem and eddie, those 2 used to kick ass for me while richer players will probably use characters like kero or lamar cr etc
option A however there will always be people trolling with DJ and guru. also i know this sounds bad but i dont exactly have faith in UR to be able to pull off option A there is just soo much that could go wrong, there is over 1000 characters they wont all be used, so loads of good characters will drop points every week, all major guilds have forums to help with elo and they will post a deck that works for them and then everyone will copy it, originality will die out with option A.
option b may not be the most exciting or the safest but its very well balanced and im sure it will bring more originality then option A
What's wrong with ELO the way it is now? Banned cards are banned for good reason. Keep it the way it is, make new modes if you want. I don't want to see banned cards running around because we decided to overhaul ELO completely
This method in theory, is the best. It is balanced and would be fun.
However, practically it would be a nightmare. Deck making would be tiresome and you would most likely be able to use the same deck with minor variations every week. Do not make this ELO.
This idea is fun, but I again dislike it. Having one OP card in every deck will just make ELO a game of whoever draws the OP card wins. Not fun.
This one is the most balanced, but something new is needed. Perhaps return a format similar to standard?
This format would only have the more modern cards but it would be balanced for every clan. You can rotate cards in and out of the format easily. This format will prevent what is currently happening; more and more OP cards being released so they that get some play over the current staples. These will mean that UR can release balanced cards and not need to release OP ones; also this could increase pack sales as players would need the newer cards.
Currently there is the big issue of many cards becoming obsolete; this fixes that. Temp bans would still occur.
Along with this new standard ELO, perhaps keep survivor ELO as it is now? This gives old cards somewhere to be played.
Also, a return of DM T1 would be perfect
