I will stop with the floodspam at some point, but this has really got me going and I know the logic is out there! So, another way to look at it....
Protection is Defensive
COM is Offensive
OK, so cancel opp mod is both offensive and defensive in terms of effects (stops reduction of self AND augmentation of foe), but it is an offensive action in that it tries to remove an opponent's capabilities, whatever they may be. A defensive-type Protection ability would defend against this offensive-type Cancel ability. Protect is still a negation of the opponent's card, but in a passive sense- "you can try whatever you like, modify up or down, but I'm standing fast against you because I am PROTECTED"
Hmm, that makes sense.
So how would Petit Coq do against Mimmo?
Would it work as it does now? (Both bonuses are essentially deactivated) Or would Petit Coq keep his bonus since Protection: Attack would override Cancel Opp Attack Modif?
I personally would prefer the latter.
Cancel attack mod does override protection attack. Protection attack only stops eg-10 upper bonus. Protect stops reductions. Cancel, cancels any attack up or down. The same with power or damage or life. Cancel cancels. Protect protects from being reduced. Stop bonus, stops their bonus. Basically cancel bonus. No matter the type of bonus. They could have called it stop: attack modification. From a programming standpoint it would have to be a similar code. Not exactly but close. So hey let’s name it something different because it’s a different thing. “Cancel” whatever the specific abilities are to be addressed. Cancel is definitely better than protection because it does the protection thing plus stops you from increasing as well. Depending on how many thinks it cancels though. Raptor bonus is only cancel attack. Yamira is cancel power and damage. Obviously she is better than like everyone. Cancel damage only is nice but not crazy. So you have variety in effectiveness and we have to think about things. Yea thinking!
