Always hated that cancel abilities worked through any kind of protection. Not just for the Skeelz cards.
The clan is definitely still alive. Fairly recently there was a "favorite clans" survey held by the developers. I think Skeelz actually finished on top. Most people don't love weak clans
ChivitoAsado, hmmm I haven't really noticed that. I see most people spam great cards like Nero, Saitamasamurai, Sobek etc. and pair em with Robert Cobb but I'll see, haven't played much survivor
Piranga, I feel u man. Imagine your Beck Nena or Caelus getting wrekt by Granny may, Zaria, and others; Falkenstein & Sasha by common raptor cards; cards with protection power/damage gets exchanged too. It gets me weak . Well I'm glad to know Skeelz has a great following til now but I just hope that Protection ability gets reworked against cancels, I mean 'stop' and 'cancel' are synonymous in common language; they belong to the same category right?
NaarCho, hmmm interesting point, I see a number of players confidently play cards with backlash these days. Ghenoms, Nega LD( still lashes back literally on u), and most Berzerks. Now u got me asking, does cancel life/pillz modif. work on backlash abilities?
TheLastMyth, hmmm good point. I've seen people inserting Beck-Nena in their decks plus a leader and I remember losing to that fight haha. It's crazy, I may have to agree with you.
The problem with them is definitely because they are a clan designed to be used without relying on their bonus too much. For ability/bonus synergy they were designed to have abilities that compensate for a bonus that could potentially never be active at all in a match if your opponent did have soa in their hand(and to a lesser extent sob since you aren't losing anything too important to sob)
So they have a problem with having naturally good base stats and/or glass cannon abilities where their main weakness is soa and in most non gheist/roots decks only have at most 2 soa cards, while most gheist and roots cards are banned making mono decks hard. Splashing in skeelz cards at 1 is just too easy since odds were their bonus were never going to be used in the first place.
To balance them out and make good cards that can't be splashed at 1 maybe a new condition like support, but the ability can only active if there is another member of the same clan is present.
