As I'm sure some of you know, when it comes to EFC, the single 5 star you can have is typically the best card in your deck. Whether they have great combat abilities, resource manipulation, or utility, a deck's 5 star is perhaps the most difficult choice to make for an EFC deck. The Ghiest clan has 14 characters that are 5 stars. Of those 14, XU Kr4ng, Rolph, No Love, Mechakolos, and Koshiro are banned. But here's the thing: these characters being banned is really not that big of an issue. No Love and Mechakolos should never have even been printed, and Rolph and XU-Kr4ng have absurd combat manipulation for a clan with Stop: Opp Bonus. Koshiro is the only one thats even slightly debatable, but he's definitely a super strong card, and I have no problem with him being banned.
So if the bannings are reasonable, what's the problem? Well, it boils down to 2 things. One of them is the other cards that are banned for Ghiest, and the other is the remaining 5 stars.
First things first: what about the other 9 five stars in Ghiest. Well right off the bat, Gork and XU-Bot are garbage and aren’t even worth considering, and Vladimir is almost strictly worse than XU52 (for now we’ll keep prices out of this). The remaining 6 five stars are XU52, Ksendra, Wardom, Miss Twice, Lin Xia, and Tunders. Wardom is probably the worst of the bunch, as all he can do is push through damage and he isn’t even good for bluffing. Lin Xia is pretty similar though she is a slightly better bluffer. Tunders is not bad but he’s predictable and weak without his ability. Ksendra may actually be a good choice, but I’m not sure damage reduction is what you want on your 5 star, great stats notwithstanding. So then it really boils down to XU52 vs Twice. Only 2 five stars? Really? While Ghiest(and Roots) do have one of, if not the best bonuses in the game, is this really the price they have to pay?
Maybe all of this wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for what else Ghiest has access to. Of the characters from other stars, Dolly, Djengo, Arkn, Toro, Hachi, Bristone, Draheera, and Leviatonn are all banned. So many bans with such a small pool of viable 5 stars. With these bans, the only damage reduction Ghiest has is Sigmund, whose price actually IS a consideration(Though SOA is often a type of dr). I must admit, however, that Ghiest’s 2 stars are actually really good for how powerful the clan’s bonus is.
I guess what I want to complain about is please, print more Ghiest 5 star
I don't see the problem, many clans lack "great" 5* and they are still highly played, in fact having solid 4*,3* and 2* is more important since you can only play 1 5* in your deck. The best example of a highly played clan that lack good 5* is Ghostown.
Also, XU52 is played sometimes, 8 damage SOA, it's quite good
I think the best 5* they have is Lin Xia not because she's a good bluff or even good at 5* but because she's usable at 2*. 5 damage for a 2* is hard to beat, especially when its combined with SOA. Semi-evos seem to be the way the game is heading now, and I kind of like it. It gives new life to older cards that would die out otherwise.
I also don't see the need for a new 5* GHEIST. If anything, it's good that GHEIST players still have a number of options, each serving different role. Yes, they're not great but definitely not unviable. Their 4* lineup is also very solid, GHEIST is not lagging in the high star department. A new, strong 5* will only push GHEIST's presence in SRV T3 further. Personally, I would appreciate a low star DR for the clan (that is not an LD), but that's a whole new discussion.
