I'm looking at making an attempt at ELO and thought see if anyone had some useful tips. My deck isn't anything to brag about, so I'm not expecting too much, but at the moment I'm not looking for deck-building advice. What I'm looking for is more general advice: How does your strategy / thinking differ in a non-random environment as opposed to in a random one?
Much of my strategy up to this point has revolved around getting the sure-shot or denying it to my opponent, which is not exactly a useful way to think in non-random. Does anyone have any tips that might help me (or others in my situation) adapt to non-random more easily?
With the new no random rules, one needs to put more thought into which cards you lead and which you keep. If you think you will match up with an equal level card or better, choose that card. If you have a good 2* card and your opp does not, keep it around so you could win on an equal attack.
You will want to be more conservative with your pillz. In random, you may be able to get away with 5-6 pillz on Sheitane, but that won't likely fly in no random. If you play Montana, in a random room you might try for a 16-21 attack range to get a sureshot while in no random you may only need 9-12 to get the win.
I think the most important aspects of moving to No Randoms is understanding two important concepts...
the first is exactly like derMagus said...pill control...you need to understand and expect how many pills your opponent will use. As you get more familiar with your deck...you can see how many pills are going to be needed in each situation...
the second being attack/power is everything....whether it means you have many 8's or 7's in the deck...power bonuses or attack bonuses from the clans...having a higher attack on your cards than your opponents right from the start is a huge advantage because it forces your opponent to use pills and gives you the pill advantage.
When you have the advantage with the hand that your dealt has more characters with more power and attack than your opponent...you should minimize the pills you use because your opponent will need to throw down more in order to stay in the game!
If your the one with a weaker set from the beginning...you need to figure out the right time to spend pills and stop that onslaught of damage coming your way without leaving yourself weak to another attack!
It's interesting because one slip up could cost you the match and that's why I enjoy the format! Good luck!
