As well as allowing you to level up, battle points are also key to the Daily Tournaments as the ranking system is based on the number of battle points won. We have decided to update the way in which these points are calculated by simplifying the system and making it less dependent on the number of stars a deck contains and more dependent on the development and outcome of the fight. You’ll find all the details on this new points calculating system in the rules by clicking here. This change is now in place, including during the DTs.
Standard....abolishing t1/t2....new DT rules....
They're lurching from one bad decision to another like an epileptic drunkard having a stroke. It's hard to attribute this recent string of unmitigated disasters to simple brainfarts, not when they occur with such rapid succession. I feel like something is woefully amiss at UR headquarters that is allowing all these terrible ideas to bypass the approval process and getting callously implemented into the game all of a sudden. What's going on?
Here's something for everyone curious about where the UR staff stand on these changes:
Go to the "language" tab that should be displayed somewhere at the top of your page, and switch the language from English to French (that's Francais, the second option.)
Now go to Google Translate: http://translate.google.com/
Copy and paste the website's URL into the tab on the left side of Google Translate, and simply hit the link that appears on the right. Voilà! Welcome to Le Forum!
This can be handy because UR is a French game, and the admins, staff, as well as Dr.Ido (the brains behind UR, if I'm not mistaken) are much more active there. The translations aren't perfect, of course, because of certain expressions that are unique to every language... But it can still be very interesting and informative to see what the staff posts there.
For the most part, it's very reassuring -- Dr.Ido states that the DT system hasn't been changed much throughout the history of the game, and while ELO eventually arrived at a really good balance, DT isn't there yet. I think judging from what I've read, the goal is to try to balance DTs so that 16* decks and 40* decks, as well as everything in between, are equally useable in DTs. So we can chalk the awkwardness of the current state of DTs to growing pains, and hope that it is a transitional phase that will soon lead to better balance.
Yeah, i think this is a really bad change overall... you get no bonus now for your opponent timing out, no more points for pillz left over, -2 penalty for banned cards is just ridiculous, and worst of all you don't get points for beating stronger cards... in fact if you lose or draw the match you get a fixed 18 or 23 points regardless of the rounds you won, which is awful...
ok, let's say you get hit really hard in the first 2 rounds so that it's impossible to come back and win the match in the last 2... before, you could still get some points by beating your opponent's other cards! but now? no reward whatsoever...
so with the new scoring rules, it looks like poor etiquette to win rounds when you know you're going to lose the game, because you don't get anything out of it while your opponent will lose their bonus for winning 3 or 4 rounds. also, i've noticed that some opponents, who've spent all their pillz, will stall and time out in the 2nd or 3rd round to prevent you from getting those extra points.
so yeah, i see lots of room for improvement with these new rules. the matchmaking system seems to be working somewhat better (i say somewhat), although i really think it shouldn't be possible to face the same opponent 4 times in a row, which happened to me yesterday...
Regarding bonus points:
"star rating of your deck lower than that of your opponent’s: 3 points if the difference is lower than 5, 5 points if the difference is equal to or higher than 5"
Does this means that you don't think matchmaking system is broken? Don't you get it? NOBODY here wants to play against opponent with 5 or MORE stars! These 5 extra bonus points if I win (that is a big "if" will not compensate the points I lost by constantly losing against those decks and points I would get if I actually played against opponents with similar star count!
Instead of taking the easy way out of a problem (by giving pathetic amount of points IF you win), try fixing it!
Currently, points for round played are a penalty in disguise. Let's say you have two options: losing on turn 1 to a 1HKO, or grinding out a game to 4 turns but still losing. The 1HKO, along with matchmaking time, end of battle animation, and everything, might take a minute and a half. The 4 round match will probably average about three minutes, even if you play fast, due to battle animations, the matchmaking, etc. So, which earns more points per minute?
1HKO: 8 points per minute (12/1.5)
4 Rounder: 6 points per minute (18/3)
Let's say I win. Previously, I would want round wins, and other bonuses and whatnot to earn more points for the battle, as 1HKO's didn't give a good return rate on points. Same choices above, except now I get to win in both scenarios. Let's assume even star counts.
1HKO: 16.67 points per minute (25/1.5)
4 rounder, three wins: 10.33 points per minute (31/3)
4 rounder, four wins, with KO, with 13+ life: 13 points per minute (39/3)
Even with all the bonuses, the points per minute value of the 1HKO deck is ridiculous. Playing out four rounds is not optimal. While DT's have always been about playing with speed, there is now a shift towards completing your matches with speed. These are different things. Points per round are not a bonus. They are a consolation prize given to someone that failed.
Honestly the change isn't that bad, but I do feel UR staff are dumbing the game down for stupid newer players, that uses all 4*-5* tanks, if your gonna implement this change, then I suggest you create a new room called Daily Tourney (Hardcore) to accompany it, where a deck must be at least 29*-35*and it will take place ever hour that the normal Daily tourney isn't taking place, and I feel they need to update the rules for the regular daily tourney room, where no deck can exceed 26*-28*, and this will make everyone happy U-R!
